2002 Internet Evangelism Coalition Annual Meeting
The 2002 Internet Evangelism Coalition Annual Meeting was held September 17 and 18 at the Sheraton Gateway Suites in Chicago. The Annual Meeting commenced with a reception and dinner on the 17th.
The meeting featured the newly developed "Internet Evangelism Training." The self-paced, online curriculum is designed to help believers effectively convey the gospel through email, chatrooms, discussion boards, Instant Messaging and Web pages. Designer Dr. C. Thomas Wright demonstrated how the material can be utilized and adapted to meet ministry needs.
NowTryGod.com, an evangelistic tool that fills a crucial niche for numerous Christian Web sites that lack a gospel presentation, was also unveiled. This web site can be linked to any organization's web site and will provide church referrals to specific locations. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has used the site in concert with recent evangelistic events.
Dr. Quentin Schultze was Tuesday night's key speaker. Schultze is Professor of Communication Arts & Sciences at Calvin College. His topic was entitled "What We've Learned so Far: A Sober Assessment of Web Evangelism in the Light of Seven Years' Experience." Look for Dr. Schultze's newest book, Habits of the High-Tech Heart: Living Virtuously in the Information Age, just released in July.
In addition, the American Tract Society and Evangelische Omroep, a Dutch media company, highlighted the integration of internet evangelism in specific ministries. The Annual Meeting also offered time for networking among ministry participants.
