EVANGELISM TOOLBOX UPDATE

When you search for "evangelism resources" on Google.com, The Evangelism Toolbox is often #1.  Recently, the newest edition of the Toolbox (which is a collaborative project of the IEC, co-sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) went live at www.evangelismtoolbox.com/.

Not only is the user interface more intuitive, but it also enables IEC members to add or find resources related to a language group, format, country and even a specific city ... including an event calendar!  There are over 55 major organizations offering some 1,600 resources in many formats and up to 180 languages.  Addition of links is free to all IEC members.  Just register online as a contributing editor.  When you receive approval, add the resources you have so that others will benefit.

  • Distance Training for Internet Evangelism: Until now, much of the training for Internet Evangelism has been informal self-study and learning-by-doing.  The Asia Internet Bible Institute has just announced a new formal 12-week Distance Learning course in Web Evangelism.  Participants should expect to spend about one evening a week on the study which is suitable for anyone already involved in website outreach, or someone who wishes to be equipped for such a ministry.  The first session starts in October.  Session topics include: the theology and missiology of cybermissions, web demographics, online decisions, online community, communication, evangelizing postmoderns, witnessing to world religions and unreached people groups, the local church and cybermission, web site design, community building and much more.  For more information go to:www.cybermissions.org/training/  (Source:  Web Evangelism Bulletin.)
  • TryJesus.com: is an evangelistic website designed to help churches reach the lost in their community.  Lee Raney of Christian.com Media Group says churches can learn to effectively use the Internet to reach out with the message of Jesus with TryJesus.com and Try Jesus Outreach materials.  For more information go to www.tryjesus.com/outreach/index.php.  There you'll also find the free resource: "E-vangelism Guide for the Local Church" as well as church outreach materials, church "e-vangelism" web pages, evangelistic T-shirts and other ministry options.

  • A French Christian Internet site is changing lives: Top Chretien, supported by French believers, is "the world's most visited French Christian Web site," according to Today's Pentecostal Evangel magazine. Eric Celerier, a French Assemblies of God pastor, founded the site three years ago and is assisted by a 200-member team. There are no official sponsors, but nearly 700 Christians have committed to praying for its success, he said.  According to the magazine, more than 2,000 people from 67 countries became Christians last year through the site, which includes linked resources and messages from French pastors. • Networking for Mission: The Web can be used for networking in a remarkable way. Here's how a web-savvy missionary used the Internet before his arrival, to make his ministry much more effective: "Before I arrived in [Asian country] as a missionary, I went online to the city I was sent to. It is a mixed Christian-Muslim regional center in a very remote part of the country.) I then read the daily paper online, emailed the mayor and local officials, joined a local discussion group, got informed and made friends. When I arrived, a number of people whom I had met online invited me out to dinner and my ministry started as soon as I arrived. I also managed to join the email group of the then Vice-President (now President) and made a few constructive comments - so when I had problems with my visa, I just sent an email and it was soon fixed! I reckon that I saved between six months to two years of ministry time by making a wide range of high-level friends before I arrived and "starting fast and well-informed". Sure, only 1% of people there were online, but that 1% were the leaders and they boosted my ministry so it became effective. Church-planters can use the Internet to network their way to success."  (Source Brigada Today: www.brigada.org)
  • People in poor countries could soon have a new and cheap way to get hold of the wealth of information on the Internet, according to the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3065063.stm
